Injectables

botox patient

Fine lines and wrinkles are a common – albeit unwanted – byproduct of the aging process. Fortunately, today’s advances in anti-aging procedures make it possible to slow the effects of aging long before you must go under the knife to get the results you want. If you’re not quite ready for more invasive procedures, injectables may be the solution you are seeking. These treatments offer a quick, noninvasive way to stop the effects of aging and regain a youthful appearance.

Depending on the areas you wish to enhance, some injectables treat fine lines and wrinkles on the face, such as Botox. Other filler agents, like Kybella, can be more precise in their treatment benefit. Kybella specifically addresses the “double chin” effect that develops as excess fatty tissue, known as submental fat, accumulates under the chin. Advanced Skin Medspa can help you determine whether you’re a good candidate for injectables and help you choose the treatment that’s right for you.

Botox

First developed to treat conditions involving eye muscle disorders, Botox has become one of the most popular cosmetic anti-aging treatments worldwide. Botox is a neuromuscular agent meaning it works by relaxing facial muscles that lead to the formation of wrinkles when certain expressions are made.

Many of the facial lines that develop over the years result from repeated muscle contractions that occur when you laugh, smile and frown. This activity coupled with the effects of age on the skin create these telltale aging signs around the eyes and forehead. When injected in small doses into target areas, Botox prevents these muscles from contracting, smoothing away the wrinkles without distracting from your natural facial expressions.

Specific areas where Botox injections can be beneficial include:

  • Wrinkles along the forehead
  • Frown lines (parallel lines that develop between the eyebrows)
  • Crow’s feet

Botox can also be used off-label in some cases to address a drooping upper brow or a high upper lip, known as a gummy smile. Our providers will assess your concerns carefully at your consultation to determine whether Botox will provide you with your desired results.

The Botox Procedure

A Botox procedure starts with marking the areas on your face where muscle contractions have caused lines and wrinkles to develop. A numbing cream is then applied to the marked areas if necessary to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. Once you are ready for the treatment, we will use a micro-needle to inject Botox into the points where the muscle contractions occur.

The most common treatment areas are the outer eyes and the forehead. The use of such a tiny needle causes little to no discomfort as the needle is incredibly thin. Anywhere from one to three injections are given per muscle. Overall, the entire procedure takes 20 minutes or less.

Botox Effects

The effects of Botox work to relax facial muscles quickly so that you can see the benefit soon after your treatment. The full effects of the procedure appear within about one week and last for three to four months in most patients. For even more dramatic results, you can combine Botox with dermal fillers, which help smooth out lines and wrinkles and restore youthful volume along the nose, cheeks, mouth, and jawline. We can even perform these treatments at the same session, so you achieve your complete outcome with just one visit to our office.

Juvéderm

FDA-approved Juvéderm is one of the most effective dermal filler treatments available, and it is one of the most popular procedures we perform. The injections are composed of hyaluronic acid (HA), a hydrating substance found naturally in the body that smooths wrinkles and folds by restoring volume loss in the skin. As you age, you start to lose hyaluronic acid in addition to collagen, which causes the structure and volume of your skin to diminish.

We also offer Juvéderm Ultra Plus. a thicker version of the traditional Juvéderm. It is ideal for softening deeper lines, such as nasolabial folds.

Voluma

Juvéderm Voluma is another filler designed to add volume to your face. It is specifically formulated to volumize the mid-face, cheek, and chin. A thicker filler than traditional Juvéderm, Voluma can provide immediate results that last up to 2 years or more.

Voluma is unique because of it is FDA-approved to immediately add volume to the mid-face cheeks, giving you a characteristic and unobtrusive lift. The secret to its effectiveness is its progressive Vycross innovation, which uses a smoother gel than other fillers that streams effortlessly and reliably to deliver a more natural look.

Voluma is a great option if you don’t want or need conventional surgery to address direct facial volume loss, but desire natural-looking results for facial rejuvenation.

Vollure XC

Another great option from the Juvéderm line of HA fillers to receive FDA approval for addressing volume loss is Juvéderm Vollure XC. Vollure is an ideal filler treatment for moderate to severe facial wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds.

What makes Vollure a true game-changer in cosmetic dermatology is that you can typically expect results to last up to 18 months.

Volbella

Another Vycross product designed especially for the lips and thin areas around the eyes: Volbella. The filler gives a smooth natural appearance

Restylane

Restylane injectable treatments improve volume loss in the skin by diminishing wrinkles and other signs of aging. Also composed of hyaluronic acid, Restylane creates more volume and moisture in the skin. The improvement is gradual and subtle, making it also effective for restoring volume to lips that have thinned due to aging. It is the one filler that has been in use around the world for the longest time with the fewest adverse effects of any filler.

The Restylane line also includes two formulations considered “next generation” HA fillers to correct moderate to severe wrinkles, particularly nasolabial folds. Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne are innovative fillers that incorporate a new technology called XpresHAn to create a uniquely flexible quality to the injectable gel that mimics the skin’s natural movement.

With Refyne and Defyne, patients can effectively erase laugh lines and maintain natural-looking results for up to 12 months.

Sculptra

Sculptra is another anti-aging bio-stimulatory filler treatment known for its ability to correct the appearance of volume loss. It builds collagen for the gradual improvement of volume loss and skin laxity. The final result is added volume and contour to the face that normally lasts 2-3 years.

Liquid Facelift

A liquid facelift is a non-surgical method that combines fillers and neuromodulators to correct minimal skin laxity or address volume loss around the mouth and cheeks. It restores a youthful appearance with virtually no downtime.

A major advantage to a liquid facelift is that it can be precisely tailored with any combination of dermal fillers and neuromodulators, such as Juvederm and Botox, or Sculptra, Restylane and Dysport to fit your given needs and goals. Our experienced and highly-skilled cosmetic dermatologists will work closely with you to create a custom treatment program that meets your aesthetic goals.

Kybella

As the body ages, fat pockets may start to develop in random places, including the area underneath the chin. Commonly known as the “double chin” effect, even people who exercise regularly and eat right can develop submental fat here. It is a frequent concern among men and women alike, as the additional bulge can make you look as though you have gained weight, in addition to adding years to your appearance. Kybella is a nonsurgical injectable treatment that removes the fatty deposits from underneath the chin to create a more youthful facial profile.

Kybella contains deoxycholic acid, a substance the body produces naturally to absorb excess fat. When deoxycholic acid is injected underneath the chin, it destroys fat cells so they can be naturally eliminated from the body. The body will flush out the treated cells over time, while you notice the area underneath your chin becomes slimmer and more contoured.

The Kybella Procedure

A Kybella treatment takes 30 minutes or less from start to finish. While you will likely see positive results after your first session, most patients need a series of two to four treatments to realize their full outcome. Once the fat disappears, no further procedures will be required to maintain your new look. The result leaves you with a smother, sculpted chin profile.
